TEXAS POLICE ATHLETIC FEDERATION

BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND STAFF

The past couple of years have been unique in numerous different ways. Everyone involved in Law Enforcement, Military, First Responders and Fire Departments have had their hands full trying to cope with the turmoil, violence and hatred while at the same time try to keep cool and do your job and go home safely to your families. Several of our members have lost that battle due to COVID-19, motor vehicle accidents, victims of gun violence, assault by motor vehicles and other acts of violence.

Our prayers are with each and every one of you as First Responders that you will return safely home at the end of your shifts and remain healthy along with all of your family members.

The 2021 Texas Police Games in South Padre Island/Harlingen were better than we had hoped, with a great turnout of approximately 1000 competitors. We did have several agencies that were missing or only had a few attendees due to shortages in manpower and/or being assigned to assist at the border.

The Board of Directors would like to recognize several people in both South Padre Island and Harlingen as well as some in Brownsville that assisted in making 2021 a big success:

Mayra Nunez – South Padre Island Convention Center

Maris Amaya – South Padre Island Convention Center

Randy Smith – South Padre Island City Manager

Chief Claudine O’Carroll – South Padre Island PD

Chief Mike Kester – Harlingen PD

Jeff Hamel – Harlingen Convention & Visitors Bureau

Rolando “Chino” Cruz, for stepping in and helping with numerous events on short notice.

All of the local coordinators and numerous others that helped to make the Games a success.

Following a year in which the Covid-19 pandemic required us to cancel the 2020 Games, it was great to see everyone again.

San Angelo will be hosting the 2022 Texas Police Games and is planning to make it even better and greater than it was in 2016. If you did not attend the 2016 Games you missed out on one of the best Games in several years. The competition was challenging and all the venues were fantastic. San Angelo has some of the best restaurants and people that support Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, First Responders and Military. They also enjoyed watching the events and even competing as guests in several of the events.

Registration for the 2022 Texas Police Games in San Angelo will be opening on February 7th, 2022 at 6:00 am.

The added events, Obstacle Course (1 and 2-man events), Body Building and Cornhole were also a great success with competitors looking forward to adding more participants next year.

Check the Eligibility list for changes. Certified 9-1-1 dispatchers are now Eligible to compete under the Law Enforcement and Fire Fighter classifications.

Also, First Responders, (EMT’s and Paramedics) can now compete under the new First Responder classification. This will refer to any Federal, State or City Ambulance Service.
